The Southeast Wisconsin Carpentry Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee provides the necessary training for enterprising men and women to begin a career in the well paying occupations of carpentry, cabinet making, millwrighting, floor covering, lathing, and pile driving. This committee is a partnership of unionized building contractors and the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters - Northern Region. This alliance is responsible for both the establishment of the training centers and the administration of the various apprenticeship programs as per the state apprenticeship guidelines.
The necessity of apprenticeship is well documented as less than 15% of tradesmen are apprentice trained. Clearly, there is no substitute for on-the-job training received as an apprentice working beside an experienced journeyman.
These trades require proficiency, knowledge and hands-on involvement. In depth classroom instruction from skilled professionals using up to date training materials assures the techniques aid productivity, however, they do not replace the tradesman's seasoned judgment and highly developed craft skills.
The Southeast Wisconsin Carpentry Training Center serves as a single source matrix training, instructing and preparing many of the people who form the core of well paid professionals employed as carpenters, cabinetmakers, floor coverers, millwrights, pile drivers and lathers.
